Kimmel Artwork Specifications

Please read the following before sending artwork to our graphic designers.

At Kimmel Athletic Supply we want to give you the best quality for all your projects. To help ensure this, we have provided the following specifications for submitting your artwork. If you have any questions please contact your sales representative or call customer service at 800-541-6803.

Specifications for Custom Embroidery

Embroidered designs are sewn directly on the garment using sophisticated embroidery machines. The process of transforming your visual logo into artwork requires special digitizing referred to as "punching." Digitizing will give us a file read by embroidery machines and translated for sewing.

Our recommended formats include:

  • JPEG
  • BMP
  • PhotoShop - eps or psd
  • Tiff
  • GIF
  • JPG
  • Vector file
We can also take your artwork off of printed materials including business cards, brochures and even previously embroidered garments. The better the artwork the easier it is to transfer to the format we need for the process.

Specifications for Screen Printing Artwork

Artwork may be submitted as an attachment via email or mailed in on a CD. If sending printed or hand rendered materials, please do not fold. If you are supplying your own design graphics, please follow these guidelines to insure accurate reproduction and to avoid excessive design fees. We prefer to receive artwork in the following formats:

  • CorelDRAW files (CDR or CMX, any version up to 12.0)
  • Freehand files (any version up to 10.0)
  • Adobe Photoshop (PSD, any version up to CS2)
  • Adobe Illustrator (AI, any version up to CS4)
  • Encapsulated PostScript vector graphics (EPS)
  • Adobe Acrobat (PDF files with vector files included)
  • Most bitmap formats (BMP, TIF, GIF, JPG) *
NOTE: Bitmaps are not preferred, they do not have clean edges. If they are in Bitmap form, we will only accept larger sizes. See below for examples of the two file types. Please be sure any bitmap images incorporated into your documents are 300 pixels per inch or greater. Programs such as Microsoft Publisher and Microsoft Powerpoint are not supported.

Specifications for Drawing Programs

If your design was created in a vector-based drawing program, such as CorelDraw, Adobe Illustrator, Freehand, etc. then it is preferable to keep the data in a vector format rather than converting it to a pixel format. We only accept files such as:

  • Adobe Illustrator: AI Format EPS
  • Adobe Illustrator: EPS Format
These vector-based file types are very versatile, fully scalable, and are easier to edit.

Unacceptable File Formats

  • Any Web-Based logos or art
  • Microsoft Word files
  • Publisher files

Specifications for Tackle Twill & Heat Press

Tackle Twill is popular for the professional look it provides. Commonly used for the lettering and numbering on baseball team jerseys. Twill is a fairly thick material that is sewn on by hand and stands out on a garment to provide a distinguished and stylish look for your team. Our prices make this feature affordable for your team's budget. Heat Press applies an adhesive thermo film directly onto all types of garments. The high temperature allows the film material to become embedded in the garment and essentially becoming inseparable. This is used to personalize jerseys in every sport with names and/or numbers and for some applications even logos. Film and vinyl customizations are durable and also an economical choice of many sports teams.

Paint Program Files

There are hundreds of different file types that can be used to contain graphical information. Some of them are more versatile than others, and some can be a problem when it comes to generating camera-ready artwork for the screen printing or embroidery processes. Some of the most common file types we receive include GIFs, Jpegs, Bitmaps, and TIFs. While these file formats are easily viewed, they are not as easily edited or scaled. These file types often do not produce satisfactory camera-ready artwork, but can be quite useful to convey to us what it is you would like, so that we can generate the finished design.
